The person(s) responsible for the development of the software that we now have access to,
which enables us to send GCIC inquiries from the laptop terminal in our patrol cars,
deserve a standing ovation. Officer safety (my safety) is of the utmost priority while
performing our sworn duty to the safety of the citizens of the State of Georgia as well
as our visitors traveling our roadways. This software allows us to perform our duties
more efficiently than in our immediate past. Each officer is able to verify vehicle registration
and driver’s license information as we need it instead of waiting on radio air time to
relay the inquiry from officer to dispatcher back to officer. At times as many as three or
four officers would be “in line” to send or receive information. This critical time element has been
eliminated. The software, in effect, provides the officer and citizens a rapid response and a
safer environment in which to work. The several officer friendly components of the software,
including the patrol mode, day/night display features, and the audible/visual alert for wanted
vehicles/persons, all add to the favorable aspects of this program."
